Since 1965, there has been federal financial support for the graduate-level training of the nation’s physicians. Few people realize that two federal programs: Medicare and Medicaid, distribute an estimated $12 to 14 billion each year to support teaching hospitals and other training sites that provide graduate medical education (GME). This session will summarize the current state of dental GME and federal proposals that may impact dental residency programs in nonhospital settings.
Learning Objectives:
Identify relevant graduate medical education payment and reimbursement issues in oral health education.
Upon completion of this session, participants will be able to describe federal rules and their impact on dental residency programs.
Analyze the future of dental graduate medical education funding.
